open swim lake nokomis

Still not feeling the greatest, but I am feeling better than I was on Tuesday night, so I decided to swim a loop before going to Scott’s concert (the big band he’s in) at the falls. RJP drove me. It was great to spend time with her. I think we both made each other feel better.
The water was warm and choppy, which I didn’t mind. The buoys were set up in such way that made the course .25 miles shorter, which I also didn’t mind. My shoulder ached a little, but it was mostly okay. My back and legs and torso felt strong, my lungs a little weaker. It was difficult to breathe every 5 strokes; I switched between every 3 and every 4. For the last stretch of the loop, I think I heard myself wheezing. It was all the crud stuck in my throat. I’m glad I only swam one loop. Two loops would have been too much.
10 Things
- one swimmer talking to another before starting, 1: the water’s a little cooler; I like that
- tone swimmer talking to another before starting, 2: the lifeguard is right in the way — I hate when they do that
- bubbles — clear, underwater
- the slimy, milfoil-y bottom of the lake near shore
- 4 kids playing soccer in the sand, near the sidewalk
- blue sky with streaks of clouds
- the water was choppy but no waves were crashing into me as I breathed
- swimming wide on the course until suddenly I saw a quick flash of a buoy –I’ve had to train myself to believe in these flashes and follow them — it’s taken years to believe because they are so fleeting
- 123 breathe right 123 breathe left
- 4 sailboats out on the water — one of the sails was red
