sept 4/RUN

5.7 miles
ford loop
74 degrees
humidity: 92% / dew point: 72

No sun until mile 4, humidity’s haze instead. The air, so thick! From the beginning, it felt like a steam bath and, when I reached the lake street bridge, it looked like one too. Running over it, my face was damp — was it sweat or the liquid air? I’m not sure.

Other than one longer walk break on ford bridge, I stayed steady with 3 minutes of running/1 minute of walking. Sometime during the run, it seemed to click. Even though it was uncomfortably humid, the run wasn’t that hard. A nice confidence boost.

10 Things

  1. river surface: corrugated — blue-gray, small ridges, a streak in the middle — the wake of boat?
  2. bright pink graffiti on the sidewalk on the bridge
  3. a new water fountain at the monument, with a fast-filling bottle station — excellent!
  4. shadow falls, falling, soft but insistent
  5. the jangling of a dog collar somewhere nearby
  6. feeling like fall, 1: piles of leaves on the edges of the paved trail
  7. feeling like fall, 2: even more red leaves sprinkled throughout the tree line
  8. several benches, occupied, each one with only one person
  9. sun and blue sky as I ran over ford bridge
  10. laughing kids on a school playground

On the Ford bridge, I stopped for a few minutes to admire the view upstream and to take a few pictures:
