I ran yesterday and it’s raining, so no running today. No walking either, not even to the polling place, which is only a few blocks away. Instead, we drove. It took about 2 minutes. All of the volunteers were friendly and it wasn’t crowded. I won’t ever take that for granted. I’ve heard the stories about how difficult it can be to vote in other places.
Now we wait. . . .
Vision Lost series / Yous
In the early afternoon, I submitted another version of my manuscript to a chapbook contest and some individual poems to journals. I don’t mind if they get rejected; the process of preparing a manuscript has enabled me to tighten some poems and write some other new ones, including a series of poems that use forms/images from the gorge in order to describe some aspect of my vision loss.
I’m calling them “Vision Lost” and adding the image/form in brackets. So far, I have [loop], [crack], [field], and [bowl]. Yesterday, I made a list of other possible forms/images:
- fog/mist
- dirt/ground
- bridge
- grass
- riprap
- echo
- veil of leaves/thatched branches
- bluff
- wind
- bird
- shadow
The formof these poems is: couplets using my breathing/running rhythms, either 3/2 or 2/3 or 3/3 OR 3+ line stanzas in threes.
In addition to writing a few more of these Vision Lost poems, I’d like to experiment with a series of You/advice poems. I wrote about the You on 31 oct 2026. That’s tomorrow morning’s goal!
